A Musical Theater Audition Workshop

Workshop Focus: This workshop will assist actors in identifying the strengths/weaknesses of their musical audition repertoire in an effort to increase their ability to land roles. Workshop activities will help actors hone their skills and prepare effectively to assure a successful audition whether on the community theatre, college or professional level.
Topics to be covered include: choosing songs; working with an accompanist; creating an impressive audition book; handling audition cuts and implementing them for yourself; understanding musical theater terminology; presenting yourself well to the casting panel; handling stage fright; learning what not to sing (and why), identifying your “type;” learning general professional etiquette; making bold choices that work for you; understanding the differences in community theater and professional auditions, and taking your skills to the next level.
This workshop is sure to be fun, informative and very worthwhile!
Program Details: 3 hour workshop; Cost – $20/VP members; $30/non-members. This workshop is offered exclusively to VP members through December 2011, after which it will open to the community at large. It is open to adults and students ages 16 and above.
About Ms. Tedrick: Debbie Tedrick is a voice teacher, performer and musician of considerable experience. She holds an MFA in Musical Theater from Central Florida University and is a former college professor and current voice teacher with students performing on Broadway/Nat’l Tours/Cruise Ships/ and other venues. She has worked professionally for over 30 years in several major theater markets, has recorded and toured internationally, and has performance and writing credits on TV, radio and film. Additionally she is currently a writer for The Sondheim Review publication. She has musical directed countless shows in this area for both community and youth theater (including Assassins with VP and Oliver, Spelling Bee, Mulan, Narnia, Rent and A Little Princess with VYT). She has a wealth of information and knowledge in the area of vocal performance and is a patient, supportive and effective teacher.
